I used to think that success was a matter of luck or being in the right place at the right time. At some point though, I heard a message that changed how I approached goals entirely: if you truly want something, you must ask—and ask clearly. Then believe it like a child. When I applied this simple shift, I began to see doors I hadn’t noticed before.
1. Asking Is the Beginning of Receiving
Everything starts when you admit what you want. Not in a vague way, but in a clear, specific way. What exactly do you want? By when? What does “success” even look like for you? Jim Rohn says asking starts the process. If you never ask, there’s no way for your life to respond.
2. Define With Precision
It is not enough to say “I want to be successful” or “I want more happiness.” You must define how you measure that. How much more income? What kind of relationships? What feelings? When you sharpen your ask, your mind and environment begin to adjust. I learned to write down what “enough” means in my life—and that changed my decisions.
3. Believe It Like a Child
Adults often doubt themselves. We second-guess, we avoid being bold. The truth is, believing you deserve your goal is as important as the goal itself. Rohn tells us to plan like an adult, believe like a child. And I found this to be true: the more I trusted I could get what I asked for, the more I behaved in ways that made it happen.
4. Take Consistent Action
Belief without action is wishful thinking. Once I asked what I wanted, defined it, and believed I could get it, I began taking tiny consistent steps. I showed up, I learned, I failed, I adapted. Success became less about one big leap and more about dozens of small, intentional moves.
5. Expect the Process, Not Instant Results
When you ask and believe, you don’t always get instant gratification. Your journey might take detours. You might feel stuck, lose momentum, or doubt yourself. I’ve been there. And here is the secret: the waiting period is part of the process. Staying faithful to your vision and continuing the work is what separates those who just dream from those who achieve.
6. Protect Your Mindset, Protect Your Vision
Once you have asked and believed, you may face resistance. People might question you, circumstances might challenge you, your inner voice might whisper “you’re not ready.” When you define what you want and trust you can have it, you start protecting your own peace. You avoid distractions, you stay consistent, you guard your mind.
